Véligéo Project

Located in the center of Yvelines, the Véligeo geothermal power plant provides heating and hot water for the equivalent of 12,000 homes in Velizy-Villacoublay.

Commissioned in the 1960s, the heat distribution network of the City of Vélizy-Villacoublay is now powered by over 60% renewable and local energy: geothermal energy.

Since its commissioning on December 7, 2021, the geothermal power station has been providing heating and domestic hot water to the 19 km network of the city, equivalent to 12,000 housing units.

This project strongly contributes to the objectives of renewable energy development in support of the energy transition. The total investment amount
is €25 million, with approximately €9 million subsidized by the Île-de-France Region and Ademe.

A worldwide reknown project.

The exploration of geothermal energy in Vélizy-Villacoublay is a national first, applying the technology of multi-drain drilling. This technique promotes the recovery of a 65°C heat source, further warmed using heat pumps for a capacity exceeding 16 MW. This project has gained global recognition, receiving the Innovation of the Year award from the European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC) and being labeled SOLAR IMPULSE* among 1000 global solutions, specifically for the multi-drain drilling technology.
